CENTRE FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
The Centre for Development Studies was established in 1973 to engage primarily in research, with the objective of participating in national and international efforts to identify and understand the processes and mechanisms of development. It is also to contribute to the stock of information needed by policy makers and administrators in solving development problems.
The Centre runs interdisciplinary programmes leading to the degree of Master of Philosophy in Development Studies the first of its kind in the country. The Centre in 2003 introduced four new MA Sandwich programmes: Environmental Management and Policy, Democracy, Governance Law and Development; Human Resource Management and Human Resource Development. The Centre also runs undergraduate Certificate and Diploma programmes in Labour Studies as well as an Executive Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Policy Studies.
The Centre is working towards introducing more demand driven programmes and tailor made courses for civil society.
Staff are involved in the following research activities: Good governance, Financial sector liberalisation, Labour displacement and productivity, Refugee dynamics of West Africa, and Post conflict resolution, Gender and development.
